Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Video review technology will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the ability to contest specific decisions made by the official, echoing the practice currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This technology will be operational on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step arrives only a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific decisions, including:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be no cap on the amount of reviews a competitor can initiate.

A Recent Example

An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was out or in.

Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
